About this chapter
Rain falls on an old teahouse at the edge of Kyoto. A swordsman in a grey cloak asks the owner, Hana Mori, whether the last master of the Hollow Moon style serves tea here — then splits her cup in two without spilling a drop. She follows him into the lantern-lit courtyard holding nothing but a wooden tea whisk, and the duel is over in a single movement.
This chapter uses the Japanese manga · B&W style with the Manga page format: slanted panels read right to left, black ink with screentone, and sound effects such as SHK, SHING and THUNK drawn as part of the page.
How it was made: Hana Mori comes from the Comic Studio original character library. The story was pasted as one short chapter, the studio drew her reference sheet in the black-and-white manga style, split the text into four pages and lettered the captions and balloons in English. Pages were drawn three at a time in about three and a half minutes.
