About this chapter
Night shift downtown. Paramedic Nova Ashby absorbs every impact around her as heat and light, and when the river bridge starts to give way under a tanker truck she has to stop it in public. Detective Axel Reyes has one idea for where all that energy can go: straight up. The chapter ends with a pillar of light over the city and a promise of coffee.
Drawn in the American comic style — bold inks, halftone dots, flat saturated colour — with the Classic grid page format: rectangular panels with white gutters, read left to right and top to bottom, plus big sound effects like GROOAN, KRAKOOM and FWOOM.
How it was made: Nova and Axel were both picked from the Comic Studio character library and got a reference sheet each in the American comic style. The studio broke the chapter into four grid pages, ran the continuity check and wrote the prompts for free; every page kept her red hair, teal paramedic suit and his tan trench coat.
