It is the video effect that spread on TikTok in the summer of 2026, named for the colour it lands on. Five things happen at once: the frame is bent by a slow flow field so straight edges wander, neighbouring pixels are smoothed into painted blocks, edges are pushed dark so contours read as ink lines, brightness is stepped down onto a ladder of deep olive, matcha green and lemon-yellow, and grain crawls over the result. The give-away that it is not a colour preset is the movement — drag Filter strength to 0 and your own colours return while the brushwork and the drift stay.

To remove the matcha filter from a video, load the finished clip on that tab instead of your original: Auto analyze samples five frames of your clip on your own machine, estimates the green-yellow cast, the black and white points and the amount of grain, and sets four sliders — Tint fix, Denoise, Contrast, Sharpen — to a conservative start. Be clear about what a remover can be: colour cast, grain and crushed contrast usually come back, softness and edge clarity sometimes improve, and shapes the effect warped or detail it painted over cannot be recovered by anything, because those pixels no longer exist in the file.

No. The file is opened with an object URL, decoded by your browser, rendered by a WebGL2 shader on your own graphics card and encoded back to MP4 in the same tab. There is no upload endpoint in this tool and no copy of your clip on our side — closing the tab is the entire cleanup. That is also why there is no render queue: the work happens on your machine, so it starts the moment you press the button. One caveat worth stating plainly: if you are signed in when an export finishes, the tool saves that edit to your projects — the look, the slider values, the file's name and size, and a thumbnail of the rendered frame. The video itself is never part of it.

Because the effect moves pixels as well as recolouring them, and at full strength it will happily warp a face into something unrecognisable — that is the "gone wrong" everybody posts. Two fixes: switch to the Soft look, which bends a fraction as far, keeps six gentler tone steps and holds on to a fifth of your own colour; or stay on Classic and pull Liquid motion down toward 30–40, which is also the right move when the camera itself is moving. The 90-second ceiling is there because every frame is seeked individually, and sparse keyframes in long phone footage make seeking the slow part.

For video, an MP4: H.264 at 30 fps with your original sound muxed in as AAC, at your clip's own shape — a 720×1280 phone clip comes back 720×1280. The resolution you choose sets the short side (720, 1080 or 2160) and never upscales past your source, so a 720p original stays 720p whatever you pick. For a photo, a PNG at the size you loaded. It recreates the look people know by that name as a shader that runs on your own footage, in your own browser, so you can put it on a file you already have and take it off again — neither of which the in-app effects do.

The editor does: the layout folds to one column, the sliders are touch targets and the preview runs. Exporting needs a browser with a built-in video encoder — Chrome, Edge, recent Firefox and Safari 17 and up have one — so on an older browser you may be able to preview but not download; move to a desktop browser for the render.
