The crop is the fifth: photocards are printed at roughly 55 by 85 millimetres, about the size of a bank card, so the framing is tight, vertical and centered with the eyes high in the frame. - Concept photos are shot against studio paper or a built color set, which is why the background is a single flat tone with no depth cues. That flatness is what makes the subject read as a graphic rather than as a person standing somewhere.
