A profile picture that survives being tiny.

Upload one photo and the Discord PFP maker turns it into a circular avatar built to read at chat size: the face framed inside the circle, the background simplified, and the edges kept clear of where the status badge sits when you ask for it. Ask for anime, illustration or pixel treatment if you would rather not use a straight photo.

What it is

Sized for where it is actually seen.

A Discord avatar is displayed at 32 pixels next to a message, 40 in the member list, 80 in a profile popout and 128 on the full profile. Almost every avatar is chosen at the largest of those and then fails at the smallest, because the face was too far away, the contrast was too low, or the status badge in the bottom right sat on the part that mattered. The Discord PFP maker takes one photo and re-composes it for the circle: the subject framed to fill it, the background reduced to something that does not compete, and the result rendered as a square image with the circular composition already in place, so the platform's mask crops away nothing you needed. It works the same for Slack, forums, GitHub and anywhere else avatars are round.

Framed for a circular mask Readable at 32 pixels Photo, anime or pixel style

How it works

Make an avatar in three steps

1

Upload a photo

Anything with a clear face works; portrait, landscape and full-body shots are all fine because the tool re-frames them. Higher resolution helps, since the crop will be tight.

2

Say what you want

Keep it a photo, or restyle it as anime, flat illustration or pixel art. Name a backdrop colour if you have one, and say if you want it tighter or looser than the default framing.

3

Generate, check it small, download

The cost is shown in the workbench before you generate. Zoom out until the result is thumbnail-sized; if it still reads, upload it and let the platform do the resizing.

Composed for 32 pixels, not 512

Composed for 32 pixels, not 512

The difference between a good and a bad avatar is almost entirely whether it still reads in the message list. The tool frames the face to fill the circle and simplifies the background so the silhouette survives being shrunk sixteen times.

  • Tight, centred framing
  • High contrast against the backdrop
  • One subject, simple silhouette
Composed round, exported square

Composed round, exported square

The platform masks the image to a circle, so anything in the corners is thrown away and anything near the edge is clipped. The avatar is composed inside the circle you will actually see, with a safe margin, and exported as the standard square. Ask for the lower-right corner kept calm and the status badge has nothing to cover.

  • Square file, circular composition
  • Safe margin inside the mask
  • Ask for the badge corner kept clear
Not everyone wants a cropped selfie

Not everyone wants a cropped selfie

The most common reason people search for a PFP maker is that they do not want to use their face as a photograph. Ask for anime, illustration or pixel treatment and you get an avatar that is recognisably you at a glance without being a photo of you, which is also the format that reads best small. For a full anime portrait see the AI Anime Avatar.

  • Keeps the framing

Why LazyKiwi

Why use this

The framing is the point

Composed to read at message-list size, which is where every avatar is actually judged.

Correct for a circular mask

Square file, circular composition, and a calm badge corner when you ask for one.

Restyling built in

Photo, anime, illustration or pixel from the same upload.

Works anywhere avatars are round

Slack, GitHub, forums and games use the same mask, so one avatar covers all of them.

Cost shown first

Each avatar shows its credit cost before you generate, so trying a second style is cheap.

FAQ

Discord PFP questions

What size should a Discord PFP be?+

Discord recommends a square image of at least 512 by 512 pixels in PNG or JPEG; it masks it to a circle and downscales it for display. Upload the generated avatar as it is, or resize it to 512 square if you prefer, and let the platform handle the rest.

How do I make a circular profile picture?+

Upload your photo here and the avatar is composed inside a circle with a safe margin. The download is a square image; Discord and every other platform with round avatars apply the mask themselves, so the circle you saw is the circle they show.

Can I use a GIF as an avatar?+

Animated avatars require a Nitro subscription on Discord. This tool exports a still image; if you have Nitro, you can animate the same composition elsewhere and upload that.

Why does my avatar look bad in the chat list?+

Almost always because the subject is too small in the crop. At 32 pixels a face has to fill most of the circle to be recognisable. Ask for a tighter crop than feels comfortable and check the result at thumbnail size before uploading.

Is this made by Discord?+

No. LazyKiwi is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Discord Inc. This is a third-party avatar maker that produces an image you upload to Discord yourself, and it works just as well for any other platform with round avatars.

Is the PFP maker free?+

You can try it on the free balance you get when you sign up. Each avatar uses credits, and the cost is shown in the workbench before you generate.

Use cases

What people make these for

Discord, Slack and forums

Any platform that masks avatars to a circle and shows them mostly at tiny sizes.

Matching avatars

A pair for two friends or a couple that only reads as a pair when seen side by side. See the Matching PFP template.

A face-free identity

A stylised version of yourself, or a chibi version, for spaces where you would rather not post a photograph.

More answers

More about avatars

What makes an avatar read well at small sizes?+

One subject, high contrast against its background, and a simple silhouette. Detail is invisible below about 64 pixels, so anything that depends on texture, small text or a busy scene disappears. Illustrated and flat-colour avatars beat photographs for the same reason.

Where does the status badge sit?+

Bottom right, overlapping the circle. It covers roughly the lower-right eighth of the avatar, which is why anything important, such as a hand, a logo or part of a face, should not live there. Say keep the lower-right corner plain in your instruction and check the result at small size.

Should the background be transparent?+

Not usually. The corners outside the circle are masked anyway, and a transparent centre means your avatar changes colour between light and dark themes, often becoming unreadable in one of them. Ask for a solid backdrop colour instead.

How do I make a matching pair?+

The Matching PFP template takes two photos and produces a set designed to sit next to each other, with a shared background, complementary framing and the same treatment on both.
