Luma Ray 3
Luma's Ray 3 was the first video model sold on reasoning and studio-grade HDR. It has since grown into a family: Ray3 Modify for editing, Ray3.14 for native 1080p at lower cost, and Ray3.2 with keyframe control. Here is what each version does, where to run it, and what to use in LazyKiwi today. Specs: up to 360p to 1080p; native 1080p since Ray3.14.

Using it
How to use Luma Ray 3
Ray 3 is a Luma product; LazyKiwi does not run it. These are the routes Luma offers.
Luma web app
Pick Ray3.2 as the model, write a prompt or upload a still, choose 5 or 10 seconds and a resolution, and generate. Draft Mode is the cheap first pass.
Luma API
Ray3.2 is exposed through Luma's API with credit pricing by resolution, duration and task; HDR and EXR cost more per clip.
Need a clip now?
LazyKiwi's video generator runs Veo 3, Kling v3 Omni, Wan 2.7 and Seedance 2.5 in the browser with free credits on sign-up.
What it is
What Luma Ray 3 is built for
Luma AI launched Ray3 on September 18, 2025 as "the world's first reasoning video model and the first to generate high fidelity 16 bit HDR". The pitch is studio work: the model reasons about the prompt, checks its own output, and renders in a colour range that survives a professional grade.
Reasoning
A model that plans and judges its shots
Luma describes Ray3 as reasoning-driven: it is meant to "understand intent, think by generating visuals and concepts, and judge its outputs" before returning a clip, which is why it is sold to film and games teams rather than to meme makers.
- Reasoning-driven generation
- Draft Mode: 5x faster, 5x cheaper
- Built with entertainment and gaming creatives
HDR
Native 16-bit HDR and EXR export
Ray3 generates in high dynamic range natively and exports 16-bit EXR frames, so the footage can go into a colour pipeline instead of being a finished SDR MP4. In Ray3.2, HDR costs twice the base credits and HDR with EXR three times.
- 16-bit HDR colour generated by the model
- EXR export in ACES2065-1
- Meant for grading, not just posting

FAQ
Ray 3 FAQ
What is Luma Ray 3?
Ray 3 (written Ray3 by Luma) is Luma AI's video generation model, launched on September 18, 2025 as the first reasoning video model and the first to output 16-bit HDR. It makes clips from text, images or existing video.
What is the Ray 3 release date?
Ray3 launched on September 18, 2025. Ray3 Modify followed on December 18, 2025, Ray3.14 on January 26, 2026 and Ray3.2 on June 9, 2026.
What does "reasoning video model" mean?
Luma says the model understands the intent of a prompt, thinks by generating visuals and concepts, and judges its own outputs before returning a clip, instead of rendering the first thing that matches the words.
Is Ray 3 HDR?
Yes. Luma markets Ray3 on native 16-bit HDR colour and EXR export in ACES2065-1, aimed at colour grading. In Ray3.2, HDR output costs two times the base credits and HDR with EXR three times.
How long can a Ray 3 video be?
Text-to-video and image-to-video are 5 or 10 seconds. Modify Video, which edits existing footage, goes up to 20 seconds at 24 fps.
What is Ray3.14?
The January 26, 2026 update that added native 1080p generation while making the model 3x cheaper and 4x faster, with better stability and prompt adherence.
What is Ray3.2?
The June 9, 2026 release built for creative control: up to 16 keyframes in a single clip, 1080p across every mode, Modify Video and Reframe, and an API.
Is Ray 3 free?
Luma sells generations by credits in its app and API; the pricing table varies by resolution, duration and task, and Draft Mode is the cheaper pass. Check Luma's own pricing page for current numbers.
Can I use Ray 3 in LazyKiwi?
No. LazyKiwi does not run Luma models. For cinematic clips in the browser, use Veo 3 or Kling v3 Omni in the video generator, which start with free credits.
Ray 3 or Ray3: which is the right name?
Luma writes it Ray3; people search for Ray 3, Luma Ray 3 and Ray3 Luma. They all refer to the same model family.
